A Simple Computer

This chapter is a programmer&s;s introduction to the organization of a hypothetical computer—A Simple Computer (ASC). ASC uses a 16-instruction assembly language (a small subset of modern instruction sets). Programming in this assembly language is illustrated with examples. Details of an assembler for ASC assembly language programming, and the assembly process have been described. A brief introduction to program loaders and linkers has been given.
