Namrata Nagpal, Shruti Singh, Meenakshi Srivastava · Advances in computational intelligence and robotics book series · 2025

As the global population is ageing, the prevalence of disabilities among older adults, ranging from mobility limitations to sensory and cognitive impairments leads to significant challenges to independent living in society. AR/VR/MR can significantly help elderly disabled by enhancing their interaction with the environment by improving accessibility and improving assistive tools. AR can help with geriatrics in providing memory games, or with mobility issues or guiding dementia patients. Whereas VR provides an immersive environment helping elderly with traumatic disorders & improve their psychological well-being or depressive symptoms. This book chapter caters to the role of computer vision that promises to provide a transformation using assistive augmented, virtual, and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR) technologies that aim to enhance the accessibility features for the geriatrics i.e. focusing on the elderly people having age defined disabilities.
