IBM Telum II is the latest processor designed specifically for IBM Z’s next generation main-frame. Designed-for-purpose, Telum II is focused on mission-critical enterprise workloads where performance and sustainability are of the utmost importance and the demand for AI acceleration is increasing dramatically. Innovations discussed in this article are the new on-die data processing unit for I/O acceleration, the updated cache, enhancements to the on-chip AI accelerator, core improvements and changes to the off-chip I/O interfaces.
