The complex dynamic network (CDN) is composed of multiple nodes and the links between them, and all the nodes and links can be seen wholly as two subsystems coupled with each other. In this paper, the differential equations with second-order derivatives (DE2D) are utilised to describe not only the node subsystem (NS) but also the link subsystem (LS), which is rare in the existing literature. By using the DE2D model of CDN, the tracking control scheme is proposed in this paper to ensure that both NS and LS achieve the tracking control goals with the advantage of fewer constraint conditions on NS and LS. On the other hand, the parameters selection strategy of LS based on classical control theory is also given to improve the dynamic response performance. Finally, the numerical simulation is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme and parameters selection strategy of LS.
