Online Biometrics

Muhammad Khan · Advances in computational intelligence and robotics book series · 2025

Biometric technologies are widely used in security, mobile banking, surveillance, business, education, and digital health for identity verification. Methods such as fingerprint scanning, iris recognition, and facial recognition have become standard for authentication. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have improved online biometrics, enabling more efficient and accurate systems, especially on smartphones. This chapter discusses recent biometric research integrating AI, machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL). A novel approach using the FVC2002 dataset, a benchmark for fingerprint recognition, is proposed. It generates 360-degree rotational views from the dataset's 880 images, aiming to improve accuracy and user experience in online applications.
