S. Rakhi, H. K. Sampada, Mark Bhaskar, Farhana Kausar, Arun Balodi · 2025

A new technological paradigm based on wireless sensor networks (WSN), the Internet of Things (IoT) is gaining traction and is critical for real-time applications in a variety of fields, including smart cities, healthcare, industry, and automobiles etc. IoT has been regarded as the greatest technological innovations of this era, next to the Internet. Since IoT has become part of our life, users are more concerned with security issues. Security issues can affect data integrity, user privacy, and overall system reliability; hence they are critical in IoT/WSN real-time applications. Threats to IoT/WSN devices and implementations could jeopardize consumer security and privacy, which could impact how feasible its deployment is. It takes comprehensive strategies that combines policy-based tactics with technical measures to address these security issues. Ensuring a secure environment for real-time IoT and WSN applications requires regular risk assessments, security audits, and awareness of emerging threats. In order to effectively address security concerns, ongoing research and development in the IoT/WSN space is constantly introducing new approaches. This chapter covers this subject as well as methods for resolving and conquering the problem.
