Context-Driven Service Provisioning for Ubiquitous Systems

Thalassis Alexiou, Achilles D. Kameas · Procedia Computer Science · 2025

Ubiquitous computing is often associated with a future where technology seamlessly integrates into daily routines, improving user experiences without causing interruptions. Achieving this vision requires an emphasis on user-centered design, where systems adapt to the user’s preferences, activities, and surroundings. Personalization is a key factor, because users expect systems to learn from their behaviours and respond intelligently over time. This paper explores the role of service provisioning in ubiquitous computing, where technology delivers services based on real-time analysis of user context, including variables such as location, activity, time, and environment. By utilizing user context models aligned with the 5W1H approach—who, what, when, where, why, and how— as well as mathematical models, these systems anticipate user needs, delivering timely and relevant services.
