Out of the Shadows: Cybersecurity Challenges and Solutions in Organizations

Abstract Cyber operates in the shadows. Mission and branding receive attention as cyber threats endanger at the periphery. Cybersecurity challenges are dynamic and form exploitable vulnerabilities. In this chapter, general assumptions of organizational cybersecurity risk in a multi-indentured supply chain network were explored. A risk-based simulation model was developed that approximates cybersecurity risk exposure. These results suggest that improving cybersecurity at the bottom-tier within a supply chain generates system-level improvements, but that these are offset by increased network integration. The cybersecurity landscape demands a proactive approach, incorporating technological and collaborative strategies to safeguard against the shadowy nature of cyber threats.
