Behavioral profiling of abnormal network traffic in security

Yiyi Jiang, Hailan Wang, Xilai Wang · 2025

With the wide application of the Internet and the spread of information technology in all walks of life, network security issues have become increasingly prominent. Abnormal network traffic is usually a manifestation of attack behavior and also contains important indicators of network security threats. Analyzing abnormal network traffic and establishing corresponding patterns or models is particularly important. This article aims to explore how to construct a behavioral profile of abnormal network traffic. By collecting, preprocessing, and analyzing network traffic data, key features are extracted and data mining techniques are used to depict the profile of abnormal network traffic. By analyzing multiple dimensions such as traffic characteristics and protocol behavior, a behavioral profile model of abnormal traffic is constructed. We verify the effectiveness and practicality of the proposed method through experiments, and analyze the experimental results, and effectively reflect various network attack behaviors, and discuss the challenges and improvement directions among them. Building a network abnormal traffic behavior profile is of great significance in enhancing network security protection capabilities and optimizing network strategies.
