A reflection on communication and the use of hospital passports within an acute hospital setting
Debbie Marsh · 2025
While the learning disability nurse and learning disability trained professional plays a key role in supporting the experience of someone with a learning disability in an acute hospital setting, this reflection by Marsh highlights the importance of all staff having a good understanding of low-arousal approaches and adapting communication to the individual. This is a positive reflection showing how listening, understanding and then changing practice can ensure a good healthcare experience for the individual. The use of hospital passports and the role of advocacy are discussed to show the difference they can make to a person&s;s care.
