The technology known as blockchain has become a revolutionary invention, extending beyond its origins in cryptocurrencies to revolutionize various domains, including software engineering. This paper provides a comprehensive examination of the fundamentals of blockchain technology, highlighting its core principles such as decentralization, transparency, immutability, and cryptographic security. They analyze different blockchain architectures, including public, private, consortium, and hybrid models, to illustrate their applicability in software engineering. The integration of blockchain with software development processes presents numerous advantages, such as enhancing security, improving transparency in collaborative environments, enabling decentralized application (DApp) development, and streamlining DevOps and CI/CD pipelines. Furthermore, blockchain plays a pivotal role in securing software intellectual property, preventing software piracy, ensuring supply chain traceability, and enabling secure and tamper-proof software licensing. By leveraging smart contracts and distributed ledger capabilities, blockchain enhances trust, automation, and efficiency in software engineering workflows. This study explores the current advancements, challenges, and emphasizing the potential of blockchain to redefine modern software development practices while addressing scalability, interoperability, and adoption barriers.
