Model-free fuzzy controller for time delay systems

This paper introduces a control approach that integrates intelligent proportional-integral control (iPID) with fuzzy logic, aiming to enhance the adaptability, performance, and robustness of complex dynamic systems. The iPI controller employs a model-free approach that exceeds the constraints of conventional PID controllers by incorporating online model estimation and accommodating nonlinear dynamics, allowing for real-time parameter modifications to handle uncertainties and fluctuations. Fuzzy logic augments this by adeptly managing vague and uncertain data, thereby strengthening the controller’s functionality. The controller is applied to a mixing tank with dominant and variable delays. The evaluation of results indicates moderate improvement amid frequent perturbations and varying conditions. Simulations confirm its effectiveness and underscore its potential for use in robotics, industrial automation, and other challenging settings.
