Adapting AI Moderation

Hemlata Parmar, Utsav Krishan Murari · Advances in computational intelligence and robotics book series · 2025

The challenges of moderating flammable content in online spaces are discussed in this paper, which explores the impact of global digital connectivity and the innovation of technologies. AI-driven tools today suffer from the messy issues of covert harassment, deepfakes and misinformation. Prototypical adaptive AI systems that combine reinforcement learning and contextual analysis prove promising in filling these gaps. However, some hybrid models that combine AI automation with human oversight are more culturally sensitive but raise ethical issues of bias, amplification of outrage, etc. Diverse datasets, explainable AI, and collaborative frameworks from case studies of platforms such as Twitter and TikTok are highlighted. In the era of digital platforms, with an increasing number of integrated disciplines and novel technology, it's imperative. Finally, the paper calls for adaptive moderation systems that balance innovation with ethics to make internet space safer, inclusive, and trustworthy.
