Fractional Flow Advance Theory of 1D Two-Phase Flow in Heterogeneous Porous Media

Hailong Liu · 2025

Under less strict assumptions, this paper presents the fractional flow advance equation to study 1D two-phase flow in heterogeneous porous media. Based on the equation, the new theories those are the mechanism of 1D two-phase flow in heterogeneous porous media, the effect of heterogeneity of porous media on fractional flow distribution and on saturation distribution, the cutoff construction of fractional flow distribution and saturation distribution in heterogeneous porous media, the hill of partial derivative of fractional flow with respect to saturation and the exact, simple and direct calculation method of fractional flow and saturation distribution are obtained in this paper under the less strict assumptions. The equations in this paper are for all geometries 1D flows including linear flow, radial flow and spherical flow, of which cross sectional area changes along the path of flow. Two examples were proposed to verify these theories and the calculated results were compared with numerical simulation results showing excellent agreement.
