AI-Driven Security System for Biometric Surveillance

Özgür Önday · 2025

Considerable concerns have been raised regarding the potential adverse effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on privacy and ethics. Issues surrounding ethics and privacy are often linked to a variety of digital technologies. The rise of AI has heightened the visibility of these concerns. To demonstrate how AI might exacerbate or affect privacy issues, three particular instances are analyzed. The first instance focuses on the use of private data by authoritarian governments. The second instance investigates the implications of AI&s;s use of genetic data. The third instance relates to the difficulties presented by biometric surveillance. Following this examination, a discussion is provided on contemporary strategies for tackling privacy issues through data protection regulations, as well as an investigation into the potential new challenges that AI could introduce to existing data protection systems. Current European data protection laws require the execution of a data protection impact assessment. In addition, various cases are presented in relation to the ethical considerations. This chapter suggests that an enhanced AI impact assessment could broaden the scope of such evaluations, thereby offering a more comprehensive analysis of potential privacy concerns associated with AI.
