Inhibition in the Context of Environment-Sensitive Cracking
R. N. Parkins · 1989
Abstract Although the literature contains many references to inhibitors for preventing stress corrosion cracking, these have not always proved effective in practice. Rather than list this wide range of substances, many of which have been collected together (1), the opportunity is taken of considering the ways in which effective inhibitors may be expected to operate for dissolution or embrittlement related crack growth. The conflicting reports of the effectiveness of the same substance suggests that there is a need for a better understanding of how inhibitors for stress corrosion function, and their testing before use needs to reflect the various parameters that can influence stress corrosion cracking.
