Auxiliary Information-Based Motion Estimation for Distributed Video Coding

Kang Li, Jianhua Chen, Zhen Guo Song · 2024

Distributed Video Coding (DVC) has been widely applied in areas such as wireless sensor networks, mobile video recording, and wireless video surveillance in recent years. To enhance the quality of side information and reduce bit consumption during decoding, a Distributed Video Coding scheme is proposed in which motion estimation at the decoder is improved according to some auxiliary information from the encoder. The scheme involves identifying the locations of regions with intense motion at the encoder, extracting and compressing the auxiliary information to be sent to the decoder, where such information is used to correct motion vectors and to improve the generation of the side information frame. Additionally, only the regions with intense motion are decoded based on location information, further reducing bit consumption. Experimental results demonstrate a significant improvement in system performance.
