The emergence of 6G technology holds great potential to transform wireless communications by providing un-precedented communication and computation speeds, extremely low latency, and sustainable connections. In order to use the features of the 6G networks, cognitive radio (CR) technology, which has the capacity to dynamically access the spectrum and adjust to network conditions, is expected to be essential. This paper explores the convergence of CR and 6G, highlighting the opportunities this synergy presents, potential applications, and the technical considerations that must be addressed. In addition, it discusses how CR can improve spectrum efficiency, improve network resilience, and enable novel use cases in 6G. In addition, the challenges in implementing CR in 6G networks are examined, including issues related to security, energy efficiency, and computational complexity. In order to realize the promise of CR in 6G networks, important research topics and offers insight into the future direction of wireless communication are also analyzed and presented.
