This study investigates the potential of augmented reality (AR) disaster simulation applications to enhance public awareness and preparedness for various natural hazards. A prototype application was developed featuring three distinct intensity levels for common disasters such as floods, landslides, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and fires. The application’s design was informed by technical literacy provisions related to Indonesian disasters. User evaluations revealed that the AR experience effectively facilitated understanding and recognition of different disaster intensity levels. A high satisfaction rate of $\mathbf{9 1 \%}$ was reported for both ease of use and the application’s ability to aid in disaster recognition. These findings underscore the effectiveness of AR as a tool for educating the public about disaster preparedness.
