Discrimination Learning Behavior in Several Situations Involving Intra-Problem Stimulus Variation

Mymon Goldstein · Perceptual and Motor Skills · 1966

Human Ss performed one of seven discrimination tasks in which the standard yoked-pairs method of stimulus presentation was replaced by a method of constant and varied stimuli. It was found that reinforcement of the constant stimuli produced less difficult tasks than reinforcement of the varied stimuli. It was also found that reinforcement based on position caused difficulty, particularly when Ss were supposed to combine information about position with information about stimulus appearance.
