Critically Analyzing Cybercrime Resilience Problems in the European Supply Chain Industry
Kenneth David Strang, Bulcsú Székely · 2025
Critical analysis was applied in this chapter to answer the research question (RQ) of why cybercrimes were increasing in the supply chain industry, especially in Europe, and what organizations could do to mitigate those risks. We used machine learning with heat maps and keyword synthesis diagrams to thematically analyze the literature results. We created customized cybercrime risk gauge dashboards to illustrate the major cybersecurity problems impacting the European supply chain industry. We then developed a radial analysis model to identify a recommended best practice level for each thematic factor, compared to the current compliance levels we had estimated for the supply chain industry. Overall, we determined that organizations in the supply chain industry must first focus on improving policies customized for their operations and, secondly, augment staff training. The training would likely be segregated into detection techniques and mitigation approaches, with the latter done by advanced information technology security specialists. Finally, we recommend a more considerable investment in technology to detect and prevent cybercrimes.
