The purpose of this study is to address the limitations in understanding evaporation and boiling from a microscopic particle perspective and to explore the educational value of coding-based instruction for particle model development. To achieve this, the study first analyzed the curriculum and textbooks related to evaporation and boiling and developed a particle model development program based on the findings. This program was then applied to five students attending a general high school in Gyeonggi Province. The educational effects were analyzed by dividing them into conceptual change effects and other educational effects beyond conceptual change. Conceptual change was assessed using a questionnaire, while other effects were analyzed through discussions. The analysis revealed that students developed particle models at different levels, but each model had its own limitations. Although the final particle model outputs had constraints, the concept assessment results indicated that students either transitioned to a scientific understanding of the concepts or refined their existing knowledge. Furthermore, beyond conceptual change, students demonstrated an improved understanding of evaporation and boiling from a microscopic perspective. This study confirms the value of using coding programs in the process of particle model development as an educational approach to teaching microscopic particle concepts.
