Can applied blockchain technology facilitate corporate green innovation?

Under the background of rapid development of digital technology, this study empirically examines whether the application of blockchain technology (BT) can promote corporate green innovation (CGI) based on the data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2013 to 2022. The results of the study show that BT application helps promote CGI, while alleviating financing constraints and reducing agency costs are important intrinsic mechanisms. Heterogeneity analysis finds that the positive effects of BT application are more obvious in small-scale corporate and corporate in regions with high informationisation level. This study provides the necessary empirical evidence to accelerate the development of BT and guidance on how to promote corporate green development.
