Review of the application of semantic communication technology

With the development of communication technology, the communication parties have higher and higher requirements for the reliability and frequency spectrum efficiency of the communication system, and the traditional communication mode cannot meet the above requirements. Semantic communication introduces semantic coding, which can extract semantic features from source information, so that the communication system only needs to transmit the required semantic feature information, which greatly reduces the communication system's demand for communication resources. At present, semantic communication is mainly used in the processing of image, video, audio, text and other information, which is divided into two processing modes: single mode and multi-mode. This paper mainly summarizes the current research in the field of semantic communication, introduces the application of semantic communication in unimodal and multimodal processing methods respectively, summarizes the current information measurement methods in the field of semantic communication, and finally explains the significance of semantic communication research and prospects the future development direction of semantic communication.
