Nowadays, high-performance computing (HPC) is the most promising field in computer science. Many domains, like big data analysis, deep learning, data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, and bioinformatics, require high-performance computing resources. It’s a big challenge for researchers to select the proper computing environment to optimize performance. This chapter presents the different computing architectures and their functional as well as non-functional requirements. With the rapid growth in smartphones and cloud services, computing techniques are growing fast, which leads to a significant transition in computing optimization. Many national laboratories have produced high-performance supercomputers in the last six decades. These inventions are growing very fast. Due to the high demand for semiconductors, there was a need to open the door to newer technologies. This has resulted in an increasing demand for cloud networks. By the use of cloud networks, hurdles in the applications, like game playing, augmented reality, Virtual Reality, and computer vision, are now removed. It is possible to upgrade the nature of scientific computation. While designing next-generation, powerful, high-performance computer systems, we have to think of many basic and past methodologies.
