AI-enabled cyber threat intelligence and cyber risk assessment

This chapter provides an overview of applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in cybersecurity, with a focus on cyber threat intelligence (CTI) and cyber risk assessment. Recently driven by rapid progress in both disciplines of AI and cybersecurity, coupled with the growth of cyberthreats, this research direction has attracted substantial interest and presents numerous gaps that require further exploration. In this chapter, the currently dominating research trends are identified and categorized according to the specific cybersecurity domains they address. Typical use cases in each domain are explored in greater depth, given their potential to enhance CTI and risk assessment. The chapter concludes with probable future research directions, which would address emerging challenges and opportunities. This literature review aims to contribute to the current roadmap for researchers and practitioners of this rapidly evolving area, by giving insights into the application of AI and machine learning to improve cyberthreat intelligence and risk assessment.
