Evaluation of Electronic Blood Platelet Counting in Sheep and Cattle
Ellen G. Steel · American Journal of Veterinary Research · 1974
SUMMARY Electronic blood platelet counting, on the basis of collection of platelet-rich plasma after the sedimentation of red blood cells, is not directly possible with blood samples from cattle, sheep, and other animals having unusually slow erythrocyte sedimentation rates. A simple technique—dilution of the blood with isotonic counting medium— sufficiently accelerated sedimentation to permit electronic platelet counting. Correlation with standard visual techniques was excellent in tests with samples from cattle and sheep.
