A Micromethod for Erythrocyte Osmotic Fragility Determination

Ellen G. Steel · American Journal of Veterinary Research · 1974

SUMMARY The erythrocyte osmotic fragility test can be used to detect possible effects of toxic chemicals on the red blood cell membrane, which would alter the cell permeability. A rapid micromethod for measuring erythrocyte fragility using special microtitration equipment is described, and the results are compared with a standard macromethod. The method shows good reproducibility and compares well with a standard macromethod.
