Detecting Phishing Emails Using Natural Language Processing

Aditya K. Gupta, Akshay Kumar Mishra, Kavita Arora · 2025

Phishing attacks exploit gaps in email security, posing considerable threats to both individuals and organization. This paper examines the practice of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques for detecting phishing emails, building on traditional methods and integrating advanced machine learning models. The tools and technique used to carry out the research work, specifically for classification and analysis of phishing content are Named Entity Recognition (NER), BERT and GPT-4 which permit the identification of linguistic patterns, sentiments and syntactic structures unique to phishing emails. The paper summarizes with a discussion of the implications of these findings and potential for further refining NLP tools to strengthen cybersecurity measures against phishing attacks.
