Enhancing transparency and security in smart city infrastructure management with blockchain technology

Smart cities spearhead smart city development uniting advanced technology to manage assets skilfully and enhance every citizen’s life in the society. However, the complication and quantum of smart city infrastructure constitute few challenges in securing transparency and safety. Blockchain technology, with its decentralised and permanent nature, offers a favourable solution to these challenges. Blockchain is also a very good solution for costly and time-consuming technologies. This paper investigates various applications of blockchain technology in domains as water, government, energy, supply chain, security, sustainable development and real-estate and provides a mechanism to implement in smart city management. The paper highlights the upcoming advantages of blockchain in smart cities but also points out the need to approach its execution with alertness, considering limitations and engrossing all stakeholders to generate smart cities that have better facilities.
