The expansion of the number of devices connected to the Internet has made it increasingly difficult to ensure network security for IoT systems. The term botnet stands for networks formed by infected systems under control by attackers and these entities pose significant threats to the world of IoT due to their ability in carrying out large-scale organized attacks. Specialized methods addressing IoT-specific features are needed in order to detect and fight back these malicious networks. This paper is designed to deal with the situation where we need a special set of strategies that differ from those used in generic environments to be able not only to identify but also take appropriate action against such adversarial networks, particularly within an IoT context. Give a complete account of the strategies used for detection of botnets in the IoT networks. There are three main methods used for detection i.e. signature based, anomaly based, and machine learning-based techniques. The limitations are not far off from these current detection mechanisms, 546we need to focus our research efforts on developing innovative and more effective approaches to detect the malevolent botnet infiltrations into IoT environment which can weaken the system’s security capabilities.
