This paper describes the Reliability Block Diagram capability in the Object Management Group (OMG) Risk Assessment and Analysis Modeling Language (RAAML) specification. The OMG is the standards organization that governs SysML. The RAAML 1.1 RBD method is an important step to achieving the goal of standardized interoperable integration of reliability engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) as well as with other analysis methods such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis. The benefits of this integration are identifying and addressing reliability requirements and engineering constraints from the early stages of system definition thereby producing better designs and more reliable systems. The use of standard cross-model and cross-vendor methods enables wider adoption and interoperability of models from multiple organizations involved in large scale projects.
