Alparslan Sari, Sena B Ceylan, Omer K Vural, Adnan Özsoy · 2025

In today's digital era, disinformation presents a significant challenge, affecting politics, society, and the economy. The rapid dissemination of false information, facilitated by social media platforms and online anonymity, renders traditional fact-checking and educational campaigns increasingly ineffective. This paper explores the potential of blockchain technology to combat disinformation through its core attributes of security, transparency, and immutability. By leveraging a decentralized approach, blockchain can trace the origin and alterations of information, aiding in its verification and helping to maintain public trust. Our research reviews multiple studies that address the intersection of disinformation and blockchain technology, providing a comprehensive overview of existing solutions and identifying gaps that our proposed system seeks to address. We propose a blockchain-based system for verifying news on social media using a social trust model that integrates AI and human insights to enhance content verification accuracy. This system aims to curb the spread of misleading content by linking the dissemination of false information to user reputation, thereby promoting a more trustworthy information ecosystem.
