A Comprehensive Review of Traffic Generators in Software-Defined Networking (SDN)

A major change in network architecture is represented by Software-Defined Networking (SDN), which separates control plane from data plane i.e. forwarding operations. Network management is made more adaptable and effective by this approach. Traffic generators are essential tools for testing and assessing SDN networks because they can simulate a wide range of network traffic patterns. This study examines the most popular SDN traffic generators, like Iperf, MGEN, DITG, Ostinato assessing their characteristics and suitability for various SDN scenarios. Future directions and new trends in traffic generation under SDN frameworks are also covered in the paper.
