Priority-aware Log Collection Method for Storage Systems

Fang Du, Mingjie Xu · 2024

Effective troubleshooting of product system issues is vital for both customers and system providers. The primary role of a system log is to document system states and significant events at various critical junctures, aiding in the debugging of system failures and facilitating root cause analysis. While much research focuses on automated log analysis, there is limited research on efficient $\log$ collection. This paper introduces a priority-aware log collection method for storage systems. This method intelligently adjusts the log execution order based on the storage system’s actual Configuration Operation, Health Audit, and Dependency Relationship, ensuring that the key logs and diagnostic information of higher-priority components are collected first. This method is beneficial and significant in promptly addressing and resolving product issues.
