Multimedia management systems handle sensitive data in various applications such as surveillance, health care, and insurance. However, current multimedia surveillance systems face many challenges in ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and privacy of sensitive data in transit and at rest. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an extensible framework that combines blockchain technology and end-to-end encryption to create a secure, tamper-proof, and decentralized multimedia surveillance system capable of supporting time-sensitive multimedia data processing and transmission requirements. The primary objective of the proposed framework is to highly secure the transmission of multimedia data by developing a robust and scalable architecture that can effectively manage and protect the transmission of multimedia-sensitive data. In addition, it provides a secure decentralized data warehouse for storage and verification of data integrity and confidentiality. Analytical analysis illustrates the feasibility of the proposed framework in terms of the calculated number of cryptographic operations and scalability. In addition, an initial proof-of-concept implementation demonstrates the overhead time involved in storing and retrieving an event of interest within a blockchain.
