Can We Better Address CUI and Energy Loss?

Corrosion under insulation (CUI) is a significant issue in the oil and gas, refining, and petrochemical industries. Current approaches to handling CUI are generally reactive, qualitative, expensive to implement, and do not address the major issue of lost energy associated with wet insulation. This article discusses a new methodology that may be used proactively to quantify both CUI and thermal losses and integrate them into a predictive tool for engineers and operators to more easily approach CUI.
