A passport is an official travel document issued by a government that verifies an individual&s;s identity and nationality. It facilitates international travel and access to consular services. Typically, passports contain the bearer&s;s full name, photograph, date and place of birth, signature, and expiration date. Biometrics, which refer to the measurement and analysis of unique physical characteristics, are often used in computer science for authentication and identification purposes. Biometrics are also utilized to identify individuals within monitored groups. An e-passport, which is a chip-enabled passport containing biometric identification, enhances the security and transparency of travel documents. Despite these enhancements, e-passports are applied for, verified, and contain the same information as regular passports. In India, the advantages of e-passports include quicker processing times, as they can be scanned in seconds, and enhanced security measures that prevent data piracy and duplication. The biometric records make it difficult for fraudsters to tamper with the passport, as any interference with the chip results in authentication failure, ensuring the data remains intact.
