With the rise in technology and sensors, a lot of remotely sensed images are generated every day by satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and are wirelessly transmitted to the receiving stations. The security concern of remotely sensed images is the need of the hour as they are widely available on the internet for different applications such as research, weather, and agriculture monitoring to name a few. Digital watermarking is one of the solutions for protecting such expensive and valuable images. This chapter presents an overview of different watermarking schemes for copyright protection of remotely sensed images. Two types of watermarking techniques, in the spatial domain and transform domain for the remotely sensed image, are discussed in detail. Further, a watermarking scheme using a redundant discrete wavelet transform (RDWT) and Arnold scrambling is proposed and analyzed for remotely sensed images. The experimental results show that the 156 proposed watermarking scheme performs better than existing watermarking schemes for remotely sensed image protection.
