Sandip Dey · Advances in computational intelligence and robotics book series · 2025
This paper seeks to present a critique of the digital transformation in emerging economies with respect to socio-economic relevance and the role of technology in accruing developmental objectives. We lay out the concept of digital transformation and explain what constitutes emerging economies, as well as how they are connected. The topic is AI and blockchain; definitions and main characteristics of both concepts as well as decentralisation, immutability, and transparency are described. AI use cases are examined locally in education, healthcare, and agriculture, while blockchain's relevancy is analysed regarding its role in promoting economic accountability and its potential in secure voting and financial accessibility. It also responds to questions about adoption and requisite policies. Last of all, the paper overviews future directions and calls for further, more targeted investments and policies that would help improve the social application of AI and blockchain technologies for the socio-economic positive impact.
