Transformative Impact of Blockchain Technology on Healthcare Systems and Socioeconomic Development

The fundamental principles of blockchain technology that make it decentralized and safe, enabled it to expand its initial applications which were in cryptocurrency for use as a transformative tool in various sectors of the global economy. This chapter assesses the prospects of the existing blockchain technology of which very few advances have been adopted in the healthcare system as well as its effects on the society's socioeconomic development as a whole. It goes on to discuss how the technology is useful in securing information, enhancing interoperability, optimizing administration in healthcare systems, and tackling the issue of who should benefit and to what extent in order to mitigate the effects of inequalities. This chapter considers the real-life uses, and the unresolved issues, and accordingly, demonstrates how blockchain can help achieve development that is sustainable and development that is inclusive.
