BUILDING A BLOCKCHAIN-BASED CROSS-PLATFORM MEDICAL RECORD INFORMATION EXCHANGE SYSTEM

Hsien-Cheng Liao, HSIN-TE WU · Journal of Mechanics in Medicine and Biology · 2025

This paper proposes a blockchain-based cross-platform medical record exchange system, which differs from traditional centralized cloud systems by eliminating the need for a single managing authority or controller. Instead, the blockchain system is maintained and managed by a network of decentralized nodes. Traditional cloud systems rely on a centralized management mechanism, usually operated and managed by one or more central servers or data centers. This centralized approach results in lower scalability and requires unified access control through a single administrator. Moreover, when integrating with other cloud systems, migrating files often demands significant manpower and time. The proposed system leverages blockchain technology to build a cross-platform medical record exchange system with access control protection, operating on a private blockchain to effectively prevent potential hacker attacks. The system primarily utilizes a blockchain platform and is built on the blockchain infrastructure using JavaScript to develop the web-based system. By harnessing the distributed characteristics of blockchain technology, the system manages medical records and controls access permissions. Through smart contracts, it implements user authentication and document access control, ensuring that files can only be accessed and operated by authorized users. System testing indicates that this approach is highly usable in real-world operations and can effectively facilitate cross-platform medical information exchange.
