Microservices are an architectural approach that decomposes applications into small, independently deployable services, enhancing scalability and agility. The application of microservices architecture in numerous enterprises, aimed at modernizing their existing applications, emerges as a noteworthy trend. Despite the extensive research conducted on migration processes, there is a noticeable lack in understanding the essential principles necessary for the efficient implementation of microservices architecture. This study seeks to consolidate the comprehension of the fundamental concepts inherent in the object-oriented approach and their importance in both monolithic and microservices architectures. Moreover, an analysis of the design patterns and principles utilized in microservices, along with comparisons to monolithic architectures, is undertaken. The investigation delves into the advantages and disadvantages of monolithic and microservices architectures, offering valuable insights for scholars and practitioners in the field.
