In the epoch of smart devices and linked spaces, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) makes the monitoring and treatment of patients possible everywhere. When pieces of smart healthcare equipment can exchange patient data with one another, they may fulfill their intended purpose effectively. However, these devices are not compatible due to large variations in data formats across vendors. Most modern solutions rely on cloud services, where data are uploaded by a source device and downloaded by sink devices in native format. In a cloud processing environment, real-time data collection and changes are often impractical due to inherent network latency and traffic congestion, which can significantly degrade the quality of service. Ineffectiveness is another consequence of non-interoperability, and it is very undesirable for applications that handle emergencies. MeDIC, a platform for medical data interoperability through healthcare device collaboration, is presented in this chapter. This study offers a thorough analysis of the approaches and strategies for resolving interoperability-related problems, which is important for diverse systems. The advantages and disadvantages of existing interoperability-promoting strategies are discussed in this chapter. With regard to interoperability, this survey offers a hybrid method that may be thought of as a complete and dependable answer while dealing with healthcare systems. In addition to improving interoperability, the blockchain technique is widely deployed to assure data security. Blockchain technology enhances record-keeping and security in the healthcare industry. This study also focuses on the use of blockchain-based smart contracts to Internet of Things-based healthcare systems.
