The rise of IoT botnet attacks: Unleashing the power of connected devices

The Internet of Things (IoT) is highly in demand in different sectors, such as medicines, healthcare, education, agriculture, banking and financial, automobiles, electrical and electronics, robotics, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAVs), virtual reality, etc. People are facilitated by using different IoT devices and quickly creating their lifestyles. On the other hand, technical loopholes, or glitches in the IoT implementation invite criminals/hackers to compromise and control IoT gadgets in illegal ways. One of the famous IoT crimes happens with the IoT botnet. To ensure strong security in the upcoming IoT devices, researchers should study the threats and various attacks on the IoT devices and find solutions to detect or mitigate the attack effects of the IoT botnet. A literature survey was conducted to accomplish the security, and statistically collected data on IoT attacks, attack types, solutions, or mitigation techniques were applied. This study will help to develop a new strategy to mitigate IoT botnet attacks.
