Emerging Threats in Internet of Things (IoTs) Security: Protecting Connected Devices from Exploitation
Francis Lartey Adams · The International Journal of Science & Technoledge · 2025
The Internet of Things (IoTs) has revolutionized industries, homes, and daily life by enabling seamless connectivity between devices. However, this rapid expansion of IoT devices has introduced significant security challenges. This article examines the emerging threats in IoT security, emphasizing the risks associated with the growing attack surface of connected devices. The study highlights key threats such as unauthorized access, botnet attacks, insecure firmware, and the exploitation of weak authentication mechanisms. One of the most concerning risks is the increasing frequency of Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks using compromised IoT devices, which can cripple critical infrastructure (Symantec, 2020). Additionally, the article discusses vulnerabilities in IoT ecosystems stemming from the lack of standardized security protocols across diverse devices and platforms (NIST, 2021).
