Gagandeep Kaur, Darashiny Nivasan, Tanupriya Choudhury · 2025

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly growing field in technology that has become an integral part of digital civilization. It involves computers observing and analyzing problems and applying human-like thinking to provide solutions across various domains. Examples include voice-controlled virtual assistants like Siri and Google Assistant, as well as devices that can be operated through mobile phones. While AI aims to make life easier, it also comes with risks. As AI systems are essentially source codes written in programming languages, they can be manipulated by individuals with programming skills for illegal activities and cybercrimes. This paper provides an introduction to AI and explores its positive and negative impacts on the cyber world. It discusses how AI can be misused for crimes but also highlights its potential in solving cybercrimes. The paper addresses challenges related to dealing with cybercrime using AI and includes case studies from national and international laws. The authors conclude by offering suggestions for policy frameworks to address these issues effectively.
