This chapter builds on Chapter 5 and extends the discussion on network coding protocols to implementation strategies. It discusses different factors that can impact the performance of the NC-inspired communication protocols and the trade-offs among them. Furthermore, the implementation of network coding in a multi-hop setting as well as more recent schemes, such as an adaptive and causal approach of network coding, are discussed. In this chapter, we follow an algorithmic approach, providing algorithms for different modules and implementations. Further, the chapter concludes with a discussion of a flexible approach to integrating network coding with QUIC, an advanced communication protocol.
