THE SILENT THREAT: RARE DRUG REACTIONS AND THE DETECTION DILEMMA
Vani Pathuri · INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY · 2018
Rare drug reactions pose a significant yet often overlooked challenge in pharmacovigilance, as their low incidence and unpredictable nature make detection difficult.Traditional drug safety monitoring systems rely on clinical trials and postmarketing surveillance, but these methods often fail to capture rare adverse events promptly. The lack of comprehensive detection strategies can lead to prolonged patient exposure to harmful side effects, highlighting the urgent need for improved monitoring techniques. This paper will examine the complexities of identifying rare drug reactions, exploring the limitations of current pharmacovigilance systems and the barriers to early detection. We will analyze the role of real-world evidence, patient-reported outcomes (PROs), and advanced data analytics in enhancing drug safety.Additionally, we will discuss regulatory challenges and emerging technologies that can aid in identifying and mitigating rare adverse events.
