Safety and security are critical considerations when it comes to the Internet of Things (IoT), as the interconnected nature of IoT devices introduces new risks and vulnerabilities. To address these challenges, a combined approach that integrates Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Attack Trees (AT) can be employed to enhance the safety and security of IoT systems. FTA focuses on identifying faults and failures that can lead to safety hazards, while AT focuses on identifying attack vectors and potential security breaches. Combining FTA and AT, we can identify the potential causes of failures in a system and how an attacker can exploit those failures. This information can then be used to design countermeasures to prevent accidental failures and intentional attacks. This approach leverages both proactive and reactive techniques to ensure the robustness of IoT systems. By integrating the two approaches, organizations can develop a more robust and resilient IoT system that addresses both safety and security concerns.
